What is a training plan?

A training plan is a structured and strategic document that outlines objectives, content, and methods for developing skills and imparting knowledge. It outlines a planned series of activities that will help individuals or teams to meet their training goals. 

A training plan is either implemented for personal or professional development, and there are many different training programmes available for specific training modules or sessions.

Key components of any training plan  

Objective 

The plan should have a clear objective, meaning that the learning outcome should be explicitly defined, or the steps for achieving the objective should be mapped out.  

Target group

The plan should be tailored to the target group, which impacts their training needs and their own desired learning outcome. 

Content

The training plan outlines the content and the structure of the sessions. The content must be tailored to the target group and their desired learning outcomes. 

Training methods

It should also determine training delivery methods, including instructor-led training, online learning sessions, or blended learning strategies.  

Timeline

An essential characteristic of a training plan is the timeline view. It provides a detailed view of the process, and its visual nature ensures full transparency into the training process.

Evaluation

The plan should also allow for time to evaluate the effectiveness of the learning sessions. This is a massive insight into the satisfaction level and effectiveness of the course

Resources

Allocate a budget and resources, including tools, technology, and human resources, in the training plan.
